a call to die – day 26

“But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.  If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away.  It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.”  —  Matthew 5:28-29

St. Augustine.  The man, not Florida, had a problem.

His problem – sex.  He was addicted to sex.

Like Caleb in the movie Fireproof (click here to watch a clip of that scene), he overcomes his addiction and quickly becomes one of Church History’s greatest leaders.

Nasser didn’t have to say this for us to know this:  “Our culture is flooded by sexual messages.  It’s hard to avoid them.  But we need to do just that.”  (And ladies, this is not just a man’s problem – read this article, Wives, Guard Against Emotional Pornography.)

Nevertheless, Christ called us to be pure.  To be pure in our hearts, in our minds, and in our lifestyles. So how, in today’s world, can we be pure.

Nasser offers the following suggestions:

  1. “Don’t look twice.”
  2. “Avoid stimulating movies and songs.”
  3. “Develop friendships.”  [Healthy friendships]
  4. “Stay on step 1.”
  5. “Go to war against your sin.”
  6. If you’re single:  “Wait for God to provide.”

If your struggle is with this particular area of sin, may I suggest that you speak with your pastor or a trusted friend who can pray with you, pray for you, and will hold you accountable as you leave this type of lifestyle.

And remember this, Christ is stronger in you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).

Lord, as we are in this world but not of this world, guard our hearts and our minds from the evil within it.  May our children learn to walk in purity of heart and mind.  May those who are battling addictions (especially this type), know You; may they learn to trust in You and seek Your face as they learn to overcome.  In the Name of Your Son, Jesus, Amen.

You can be free because if the Son set you free, you are free indeed!

Until tomorrow, continue learning Psalm 86:11-12.

In this day and time it is hard not to be caught up in evil, evil is around us twentyfour hours a day. Once we surrender to evil, evil not God will be leading us to a black hole. We must pray for the children and our own family and friends.
