Living Wonderstruck

As I stood outside bracing myself against the porch’s column (hoping not to fall from my dog jumping on me) I could not help but wonder.

It was 39 degrees (cold for South Louisiana).  I am in my coat looking up and toward the South/Southeastern Night Sky.

I saw the first one – then another one.  The third one was huge.

I was Wonderstruck.

I spent another 15 to 20 minutes peering into the sky watching the “Shooting Stars” (The Geminid shower) sweep across the sky while my ears listened to the croaking of the frogs {each with their own unique sound}.

I was Wonderstruck.

I was reminded of my friend Margaret’s new book, Wonderstruck:  Awaken to the Nearness of God (read my review here) and the words she wrote as she remembered the time she saw the Northern Lights.

“Then something compelled me to look up, and a scene unfolded that I suspect caused at least one angel to gasp: the expanse of the sky transformed from inky blackness into an infinite canvas on which brushstrokes of apricot, sapphire, and emerald painted themselves into the night sky.  Like an oil painting in progress, the colors refused to stand still.  The hues danced as if listening to jazz.  Iridescent shades sharpened then faded with wild fervor.”  Margaret Feinberg, Wonderstruck, Chapter .001, page 14 (as printed in preview copy)

As I think about this Wonderstruck moment that I have witnessed, my mind turns to the Scriptures.  In them, it speaks of the moon, the stars, and the One who made them.

“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? Psalm 8:3,4 NKJV

I am Wonderstruck.

In the short amount of time (it was cold) I was watching the sky, I saw Seven Shooting Stars.

Perfection.   Amazement.   Wonderstruck.

May I never cease to be struck with Wonder.

Margaret recently posted on her blog this offer:   Pre-Order Wonderstruck on Your Kindle, Nook, iPad, or E-Reader and Get Access to $300 in Goods (read more).  Trust me, it is worth pre-ordering!

I have seen the Northern Lights from the Alaskan far out that the only light comes from the heavens, or a campfire. The most beautiful sight.

Isn’t it wonderful the way God has control of everything. He can bring in storms, beautiful sunset and the beautiful sky.
